war toys / practice tape 2-2-84 /

 war toys - practice tape 2-2-84 (tape c60 s/s self-released)
usually im gonna try to post only stuff with more info possible..here i should buy the Ian Glasper's anarchopunk book but i don't have any money to spend...(20 euro for an anarchopunk book it should be for free..). They were from North Devon and they belong to the anarchopunk scene. This tape is amazing...yea i like it a lot...Anarchopunk is really cool when they weren't play punk stuff but they experiments with other genre (just to think about Hit Parade, Annie Anxiety, This Bitter Lesson or Youth in Asia ..few names). War Toys were a charming post-punk band, great melodies and such emotional...They use a lot of melanconic guitar riff...and anthemic vocals in a goth way. 'Pain and Strife' is one of that track i could listen to death. And 'Pandean Pipedream'? the same...amazing..They remind me some U.S. skate-band with post-punk touch..(mc rad - weakness..sort of)...I will call this stuff Romantic-Anarchopunk...

seite A: 1. Pain and Strife, 2. The Short War, 3. Great Escape, 4. Pandean Pipedream, 5. Where's the Logic, 6. Golden Gate, 7. Unexcusable Situation, 8. In Perspective, 9. Outcry

katharsis / live at the 455 / 1988

katharsis - live at the 455 (tape 1988 SSS Productions sss16)
Katharsis was a band from San Francisco, formed by: Daniel Malson , Jano Sanguine , Mary Andre and Tim Vickers (from 1988). Daniel Malson also got a side project: Bast, that released a tape through The Happiest Place on Earth. Here we find a tape each side got a different live recording but both at the same place the 455 gallery in SF.
Side-a was recorded in october 1987. I don't know if the photo of the cover is the real band...hovewer Katharsis are an industrial band with punk attitude, is more in the power electronics vein, they don't have a lot of percussion..zero percussive..it's only about the fatness of the noise sound..the thickness, about the low frequencies. 'Imitate' is the best track. 'Fate' the most post-punk, 'Hostile Witness' the punkest, 'My father's Dead' the scariest...
Released on the Pittsburgh based label: SSS Production.
seite A / Live 10/17/1987: 1. Intro, 2. Imitate, 3. My Father's dead, 4. Fruits of Toil, 5. End
seite B / Live 1/29/1988: 1. Hostile Witness, 2. Just Passina.., 3. ..Through, 4. Leviathan, 5. Fate

chris zygomalas / white-black / c30 / 1984

Χρήστος Ζυγομαλάς (Chris Zygomalas) - Άσπρο-Μάυρο (White-Black) (c30 1984)
From Athen, Greece this tape 1984 by Chris Zygomalas (vocals, guitar) and Mr. Simitis (vocals, synthesizers). Really obscure stuff here but very cool. Greece put out a lot of interesting stuff. This tape could be described as greek minimal-wave, with a little touch of ethnic sound and with superb synth-pop riff.
The a-side start with a drum-machine 'Τι νέα απ' τον πλανήτη' an electro ballad, quiet nice but maybe i don't have the right greek background...the second track got the same style in a gloomy ethereal way..and 'March' is a funny synth-rumental piece. On the b-side 'Άσπρο - Μάυρο' is another minimal-wave ballad..to 'Ode' without any doubt the best song here, the synth-line and the double vocals make this track one of deepest minimal-synth tune i've head in the last time. Then the b-side ended with 'Wind' based on a winded synth sound...

seite A: 1. Τι νέα απ' τον πλανήτη (What's new from the world ), 2. Μικρή θεά (Little goddess), 3.
Εμβατήριο (march)
seite B: 1.  Άσπρο - Μάυρο (black-white), 2. Ωδή (ode), 3.  Άνεμος (wind)
the tape could be find here. with some info about the project.

various / music for the sloth / c60 / 1988

various - Music for the sloth (yape c60 1988 Nailed to sound CS-001)
First release for the Nailed to Sound, Delawares label, founded by the electro-industrial act Batz Without Flesh. It's compiled by Claude Willey, singer and composer of BWF, and included bands or project that was going to be featured on the new label.
BTF open the tape with a slow industrial-rock bomb 'Sinking platfom', then we find a shorter version of 'Repairs' by Daniel Burke's noise project Illusion of Safety, already released by Sound of Pig. The third track is a killer industrial-rock song by Spit [aka Vinnie Spit], with taped vocals about profit and business over a ground of metal rhythm percussion and damaged guitar chord, a cyberpunk gem. Bobs Strauss and Sloth (BTF guitarist) closed the side with two experimental tracks.
The b-side is more rhythmic with the funky-industrial weirdo shit of Smersh, an obscure electro ballad by 911 and a groundbreaking techno-ebm track by Sinister Attraction. BTF and Crowded Krypt delight us with bleeding industrial-rock stuff while The Torture Fence close the tape with an ambient noisy suite.

seite A: 1. Batz Without Flesh - Sinking Platform, 2. Illusion of Safety - Repairs, 3. Spit - Profit, 3a. unknow artist - hidden track, 4.  Bob Strauss - Release, 5. Sloth - Concerto No. 73 Four Guitars
seite B: 1. Smersh - The Nether Master, 2. 911 - Always Watching, 3. Sinister Attraction - Fragment Onslaught, 4. Batz Without Flesh - Disturbing Trend, 5. Crowded Krypt - Study In Black, 6. The Torture Fence - Ramification

body & the buildings / st / 1982

body & the buildings - body and the buildings (tape 1982 Heute mc 82092 st)
from Altusried , Bayern this is I believe their second tape (the first is 1981).
The members should be Richy Richter (drums, vocals), Manfred Faltin (guitar, vocals) and Faller (bass) [maybe also Schorch Vorgessen but i'm not sure]. The sound is changed from the dull punk first tape, in better. This is one of the few german bands that's got an international sound...they sounds like an english or an american band. This tape's got a straight post-punk attitude. Minimal and emotional song structure on a solid bass-drum rhythm ground fixed with existentialism / asocial lyrics. Fresh post-punk, simple but straight!

seite A: 1. This is normal they say, 2. Keep you down
seite B: 1. Dance dance, 2. Another song, 3. Empty faces, 4. No Voices

you can find the tape over this holy-grail blog.

candidate + gangrene / split / c30 1985

 candidate + gangrene - split (tape c30 1985 permis de construite pdc001)
Two Nancy's [Lorraine, France] bands split this tape. They are Gangrene and Candidate (they still play). It's their first release and the first release for Permis de Construire label [26 rue St. Julien, Nancy Lorraine]. The two bands sounds similar, a combinations of minimal-synthesizers and rhythm machine with guitar, sometimes poppy but always punk-attitude and electronic-experiment. Candidate stuck us with syncopatic and alienated songs to ended with a fine and sweet song. Esotic and dissonant at the same time.
Gangrene are definitively more obscure and creepy, the fifth track is in a typical french-synth way like Neva or Bocal 5, the second track is real synth-punk madness and the track with male-vocal is a fuzzy residents-soul gem.
Candidate formed in 1983 by Cécile (vocals, keyboards) and Bidou (guitar) [who also played with Geins't Naït]. Gangrene were: Johnny Ravio (guitar), Annie (vocals, electronics) and R.X Poirot (vocals, electronics) [who also played with Geins't Naït]. They later release another split in vinyl 7'' format edited by Permis de Construire / Dum Dum, and they both appears on 'Nancy Compilation' lp 1986. Later Candidate released others stuff on vinyls.

seite A / Candidate : 1. Oasis, 2. Like a beast, 3. Hero.o 4. Twilight, 5. Strange girl
seite B / Gangrene : 5track

two felipes / eat your fill / 1986

two felipes - eat your fill (c60? 1986 Flaming Cow Productions)
Astonishing wacky tape by this weird zolo high-school band from Milwakee, WI. They little remember freaky stuff like Zoogz Rift or Fuck Off related lo-finess...The retarded mongo style of some songs (Fried eggs, Mark Trail..) remind a wild version of Residents. At the end there's a large use of chep keyboards...(the infamous vl-1 tone)...
The dada non-sense lyrics, the large use of saxophone, the gross vocals, amatorial recordings ..this is a real art-punk tape gem.

Members: Dan Vebber (vocals), Steve Marchese (bari saxophone), Kris Desch (alto sax), Karl Desch (keyboards), Jay Tollefsen (percussion)

Tracklist: Frijole, Spit, Bealsa-Bop, Even Steven, Stupid Cottage, Rick the Drunk, Headache, Agenls of dog, Explosive Enemas, Kahn's, Industrial Strife, Simian, The Poopsnack, Fried Eggs, You're a Bird, Hot Cross Buns, Evil Robyn, Mark TRail, Mountain Man, Fish
